Attic trusses are used in new buildings when an open roofspace is required. This may be for a habitable room or it could be just to provide a storage area which is easy to access. Attic trusses can be bought as trussed rafters, where they are fabricated in a factory and delivered to site ready for erection. However, they may also be fabricated on site using normal timber sections which are cut to size and then bolted together by the builder. The 'on site' option is useful when access to the property is limited for deliveries and craneage.
Our attic truss design includes carrying out a detailed structural analysis of the truss. Our design also includes preparing the calculations for the joint connections.
We need the following information to design this type of alteration:
the span of the trussed rafters
the length of the building (at right angles to the trusses)
the type of roof covering (eg slate or concrete tiles)
the approximate location of the building
Design information
All design work is carried out in accordance with BS5268 (The structural use of timber).
The calculations provided will be suitable for Building Regulation approval.
