These are often wanted to provide a feature for a particular part of the building. Essentially the room goes right into the roof and the roof forms the ceiling as well.
The main design issue here is that without the ceiling joists tying the rafter feet and the walls together, the loads imposed by the rafters tend to push the walls outwards. There are several ways of overcoming this, including providing vertical support to the roof at the ridge, so that only vertical loads are transferred to the walls. It is also sometimes possible to provide a ring beam on top of the walls to resist the horizontal forces.
We need the following information to design a vaulted roof structure:
architectural lauouts and elevations of the part of the building with the vaulted roof
the approximate slope of the roof or the height of the ridge
the type of roof covering
the approximate location of the building
Please note if the ridge of the roof is longer than around 8m please call us to discuss the project, as a different solution may be required
