In residential construction, reinforced concrete beams are used much more frequently below ground level than above it. However, reinforced concrete is a strong and very versatile material with excellent fire resistance properties. It is easily cast to almost any shape required. This type of beam is invariably used to help create some kind of architectural feature.
Our structural calculations for a reinforced concrete beam includes not only the design of the beam but also preparing a bending schedule for the steel reinforcement.
We need the following information to design a reinforced concrete beam:
architectural layouts or sketch drawings with dimensions, so we can work out all the loadings on the beam
details of the type of construction (concrete or timber floors, brick or block supporting walls etc)
details of any restrictions on the maximum depth of the beam
Design information
All designs are carried out in accordance with BS 8110 (The structural use of concrete).
The calculations provided will be suitable for Building Regulation approval.
